I watched

June 1, 2000 by Michael Boyle

a documentary tonight called The Source. It was very very good in many ways, and although to a great extent I’ve gotten over my young man’s fascination with Kerouac, Ginsberg, Burroughs, and the rest, I still believe them to be absolutely central to a lot of what we consider “contemporary” North American culture – including “digital culture”. You can draw a straight line, for instance, from Kerouac to the EFF, and it’s not that long a line (Kerouac — Cassidy — Garcia/Weir — Barlow).

Note to Ed:

with respect to cdnnet.ca – don’t bother. It’s far, far more trouble than it’s worth to register a .ca or even a .qc.ca domain. Believe me, I’ve tried, and every time went back to the trusty old xxxcanada.com/.net/.org. It’s a big problem in Canada, in my opinion. You essentially have to hold a Canadian trademark before they’ll consider it for a .ca name.

but I’m picking up the key to my new apartment at 5. I can’t wait to move, though moving itself is like root canal work to me. Or worse.

Hunter S. Thompson

Hunter S. Thompson in Disinformation’s Revolutionaries section. I don’t know if he is/was revolutionary, but I did argue once, in a formal academic paper, that his Fear and Loathing: On the Campaign Trail ’72 featured the best, most accurate analysis of the political communication during that Presidential election. I got an A. I’ve loved HST ever since.
