! They’re going to have a guy named Bunky on Big Brother 2. Ugh.
Very sad news today
from the world of Quebec literature. Mordecai Richler died this morning at the Montreal General Hospital. It’s ironic, and sad, that one of the greatest writers ever to come from Quebec is massively disdained by much of the population here.
I don’t have many personal memories of the man. We never met, though I used to see him quite often when I worked at Concordia. What I do remember are his words – vivid, funny, wry novels that captured the spirit of a neighbourhood, and city, that I have made my home. And even 40 years since his first great novel, shades of his Montreal are still evident.
Community notice:
There will be fabulous times had by all on Wednesday July 4 at 8pm when Aaron, Ed, David and I host another Montreal webloggers night out. Be at Nantha’s at 9 Duluth E at 8pm.
RIP
Chet Atkins. Nobody should underestimate the influence of country music guitar – and especially fingerpicking style – on all popular music. Atkins was as big as they came, whether playing with Elvis, the Carter family, Hank Williams, and many, many more.
I’ve been away
on and off since mid-week, including a meeting up at Tremblant which went extremely well and included a fantastic trip whitewater rafting (team building, doncha know) and some great discussions with my American counterparts at work. Got back on Friday, but the weekend is mostly non-blogging time for me. Today’s my second Monday off in a row, thanks this time to Canada Day.
