are due to Caterina and Stewart, who were married June 1 in Victoria. I’ve only met them briefly, but they immediately struck me as one of the greatest pairings I’ve met. Yay!
Q: How can you tell when a cop is lying
? A: his lips are moving. I would love to believe it’s not true, and I’ve met cops who have surprised and impressed me many times. But I’ve also seen a lot of the behaviour that M-J writes about. If anything, I think cops should be held to a higher standard, and as he writes, they often can’tmeet them. In general I have high standards. In society, we make rules and then I expect everyone to play by them. Just because you’ve been entrusted to enforce the rules doesn’t mean they apply less to you. Nor should you try to change the rules arbitrarily just cause it suits you to do so in the moment.
Eldred v. Ashcroft
: the site about the case coming before the Supremes.
Ack!
It has been practically a week since I put anything new up on the site! Where the time goes has become a major question for me. My day job is great, my moonlighting job is great, and my voluteer job is, ahem, interesting – but that’s altogether too many jobs to be trying to do all at once.
The story that will not die
. Although it is based on conjecture and circumstantial evidence, the story about Unocal, the Taliban and the Bush government in the pre-Sept. 11 period seems to be surviving very nicely. The latest appearance is an article called “Pipeline dream” by William Rivers Pitt in WorkingForChange. It’s a sober article that’s careful to remind readers of the tenous nature of some of the information included.
