Danah Boyd seems to have gotten it right in her story yesterday, The new blogocracy. “Bloggers at the Democratic National Convention signify a shift in media, but not a replacement for mainstream coverage. […] What they are doing cannot be compared to journalism; it can only be described as blogging.”
Dan Gillmor has linked to
a NYTimes story and made very good comments apropos of the fact that the paper has reported that the electronic records from a 2002 election in Dade County have been lost. The election was a gubernatorial primary, and not two years later there is no record of the results other than the final tallies.
