this week comes the news that CBC’s Brave New Waves has been cancelled. At least that’s how I got the news. Jamie and I are exactly the same age – I might be a couple of weeks older – and I remember that even in Ottawa, BNW seemed like it was coming from Mars it was so different than the early-Muchmusic, Video school dance environment I came from. The show has always been an oddball on CBC Radio 2, but still, it’s a sad development at the Corpse that they couldn’t find a spot – in the middle of the night – for such innovative – after all this time – programming.
New for winter
from longtime friend of mikel.org, felipo, are these wonderful handcrafted Nosewarmers. The holidays have passed, but isn’t any day a good day for a gift for a loved one?
When I moved to Montreal
my second time, in 1994, almost immediately I found myself part of a little group of friends centered around two apartments in a house on the next street over from mine. I recently got back in touch with one of those lovely people and she passed along the link to her site: lint museum / museum of little things. Check out all of the lovely illustration and collage work, plus the wonderful little movies as well.
A moment of silence (2006 edition)
Today is a day that all Montrealers of a certain age will always remember; it is the anniversary of the Montreal Massacre, the deliberate killing of fourteen women at the École Polytechnique. So, at some point during the day, please take a moment and think about those victims and all victims of violence against women. This day has also become the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women.

Robert Bourassa Is Stealing My Street. On how bad an idea it is to rename Av du Parc / Park Avenue in Montreal to become Av Robert-Bourassa.
