fall has arrived. I could see my breath this morning. I need to turn on my heat at home. I’m wearing a sweater for the first time. The leaves have changed up North, according to reliable reports, and should be well on their way here in Montreal in a matter of days. Oh yeah – and hockey season is about to begin!
A touchpad company
is bundling software (developed in Montreal, no less) that will embed a digital signature in a “token” which includes the actual image of the pen-n-ink signature itself. So the form factor will probably work – the digital signature won’t look odd – and the system will be easy to access – just use the trackpad built into your laptop. Hmmm.
I’ve been watching
the Olympics just about every night, at least for a while. I love the whole thing, though I do pay special attention to Canadians (though luckily the CBC puts on lots of non-Canadian-participation events so people get a full picture of what’s going on). Even more, I pay special attention to people from Montreal (I think of myself mostly as a Montrealer lately). Anyhow we had a scare tonight when it looked like fellow Montrealer Bruny Surin didn’t advance past the first round of the 100m race. But it turns out he did make it. Let’s just hope he can go faster next round – he’s supposed to be among the 3 or 4 who have a legitimate shot to win the Gold.
I’m not sure if
it’s a good thing or a bad thing that Paragraph Books has been sold to Quebecor. Paragraphe is the best English bookstore in Montreal (at least the best store selling new books), and until yesterday it was an independent bookstore. They practically invented the idea of having a cafe in the store at their old location on Mansfield – when I was at McGill I used to hang out there for hours at a time.
Speaking of Aaron
Speaking of Aaron, he, Ed, David and I are getting together for a beer tomorrow night after work, the third in an ongoing series (though we surely miss Heather who was still here for the first one). If there’s anyone else in Montreal reading this, you’re welcome to join us at around 6pm at the Dieu du Ciel pub (literally ‘god of heaven’) on Laurier near Clark.
