for years has been the Mirror’s Best of Montreal poll. The answers are generally assinine, and the methodology decidedly suspect (I counted ballots one year over a 2-Liter bottle of Chilean Screw-top). Also check out MJ Milloy’s Best of the Best and Worst of the Best at thenewforum.ca.
Excuse the silence,
but I have been very busy. Mostly due to the fact that I was married on Saturday in a lovely ceremony in Old Montreal. Pictures to come very soon, and several people who keep weblogs (but who I know independently of their site) were in attendence. Reports so far are that a good time was had by all. For my part, it was not only a great experience but I was relaxed enough to have fun, pure and simple.
Me and (at least) 150,000 of my fellow Montrealers
marched today in the bitter cold through downtown Montreal. The crowd was in great spirits despite the cold, and despite the fact that there were doubtless dozens of diverging motivations for being there. Some of the slogans made me cringe, but in the final analysis, I am very happy to have gone.
Karl – who was there with his cow – has posted some pics and text about his experience today: Marche pour la paix, Montral.

I awoke this morning to the sad news
that local Jazz great Charlie Biddle died last night at his home in NDG after a battle with cancer. I was lucky to meet him a couple of times, and see him often both around town and at his club. He’s truly going to be missed.
