at the monthly YULBlog First Wednesday get together, Blork reminded me that at the end of the month, Headless Mary Gallagher’s ghost is due to appear in Griffintown. Montreal’s most renowned ghost is supposed to appear on June 26th every seventh year.
Sakuras in bloom

One of the things I’m going to miss most about moving away from here is that in the park in front of our house there are 6 beautiful sakura. When they bloom – for only about a week every year – they enliven the whole neighbourhood.
Coming up later this week:
the opening of the 7th HTMlles festival here in Montreal. The theme this year is “peripheries + proximites” though even as someone who was once professionally steeped in postmodern discourse, the description of the theme seems pretty damned opaque to me. In any case it looks like there will be a wonderful mix of performances, installations, and web projects throughout the festival, and it’s well worth a look. HTMlles is a production of Studio XX.

Mont-Royal

When the Pope died, the cross atop Mont-Royal was lit with purple lights. I’m not sure, but I think it will stay that way until a new Pope is elected. The Montreal Metroblogging page has an even better photo from a closer vantage point.
