but it looks like the whole Survey of the Internet Society in the Economist is worth a look. The Economist has for a long time featured surprisingly good coverage of these sorts of issues – it looks like this survey is no exception.
The Supreme Court in the US annouced
its decision in the Eldred case. The court found 7-2 that the CTEA is constitutional.
Doc Searls lists
nine things that indicate a media company gets the net in his piece, “Cut off the head and the body dies” (apropos of Steve Case stepping down at AOL). It’s a pretty good list, in particular because it identifies that one of the net’s primary values to a traditional media outlet is to increase the authoritativeness of a publication. Linkability or stability are key elements.
Doc Searls covers radio very well,
and today he points to a San Antonio Current article about Clear Channel that demonstrates a point I’ve been making for years. The CDA was NOT the worst part of the Telecom Reform Act. It was a smoke screen to divert attention from the negative effects of the concentration of media ownership, which is much more efficient by any measure than overt censorship at ensuring that diverse views go unheard, unpublished.
I have to remember to pick up
