a switch to an all-new backend to this site – this accounts for the lack of posts in recent days. Although I really enjoy Blogger, and will continue to use it for other sites, and despite testing and enjoying Radio Userland as well, I have decided to use Movable Type. The switch over has been extremely simple and has gone very smoothly – the only delay has been in the implementation of some features in different ways than the default install suggests, which has taken some learning to do properly. A very nice thing is that all of the current permalinks should continue to work as always.
After my class tonight
I just plain forgot about the YULbloggers meeting and drinkfest tonight. Just as well, as I’m off for a long weekend in NY tomorrow, so I had to get ready.
I’m going to NY to visit with my brother and his wife, who live there, and my mother and stepfather, who are in the city for the winter. Back on Monday – I’m probably not going to post until then.
So I’ve mostly
installed my new design here at mikel dot org. There are still some nails and debris hanging around, but it’s OK now. And although there is still a table or two, it’s CSS and HTML 4.01 compliant. Or at least the templates were when I tested them immediately before adapting them to the various Blogger formats.
Welcome to Montreal:
at our monthly weblogger’s gathering tonight (it was at La Cabane, not Nantha’s) I met Karl Dubost, newly arrived (returned, in fact) in Montreal from France.
Now this is what
I want from a computer OS: BlogScript, a script that allows me to post anything to my Blogger site from a menu that’s always available. To me, this is what it’s all about. An OS that lets anyone plug into it. An OS that is built from the ground up understanding that the internet is there, and that it will often be part of it. And always-on networking at a reasonable rate to make that true.
It may seem that I’m going overboard here, but I don’t think so. I’m not saying, “Wow. So wacky, who knew [boggle]?!?!” I just feel happy that finally something is going as far as I need it in the direction I want. They’ve made an OS that, with other elements easily put together, allows me to express myself as I choose, with no encumbrances.
