Guinness is good for you. This morsel of good news came courtesy of the ever-sharp-eyed Blork, who, with me, has been known to have partaken in a Guinness (or two) on as many occasions as possible. But now it’s obviously not a question of wanting to, but of taking care of one’s health.
The Fringe starts
tomorrow here in Montreal, and the beer tent is just around the corner from my place so I expect to be going by quite a bit in the next week or so. If you’re curious, they have a really nice website this year, design by Black Eye, development by the good people at Plank Design.
It has been an odd weekend
. A great old friend is visiting, and enough old-timers were out at this one bar Friday night it was like a time warp had openened up – it was 1997 again. And then there’s the big event just down the highway and me not there. Wondering if friends are safe. At the bar last night a friend took a call from her boyfriend who’s inside the security perimeter – he called his girlfriend to say goodnight. Our three other friends (his colleagues) are outside the perimeter, but safe as well. It’s also the first no-jacket weekend here – beautiful warm weather. A good time to clean the windows and hose down my back deck, but also for coffee or beer on the sidewalk.
I just sent this email
:
Hola,
A (late) “official” announcement about the next Montreal Weblog keepers get together! This is more or less the first anniversary of the night that Ed Bilodeau, David Petite, Aaron Cope, Heather Champ and myself got together, so it’s worthy of recognition.
And we do that with beer.
So the plan is this: meet on Sunday at 2pm at News Cafe, which is on St-Laurent at (I think it’s) Guilbault – at the corner of the tiny sidestreet between Bifteck and des Pins. It’s on the West side of the street and there’s food and coffee and stuff there. At a later time it is rather likely that we’ll move elsewhere for a quiet (or not so quiet) Sunday afternoon beer.
Please pass this along to anyone else (she or he should keep a weblog or other personal website) you feel should have been included in this email. And, on the day, if you have to get in touch with me, you can sms my phone through mikel.org and I’ll call you back.
I just got this
email from Zeke, proprietor of Zeke’s Gallery:
Paintings by Marcus Hildebrandt
Vernissage: 10/20/2000 19h
L’Exposition continue jusqu’au 11/19/2000
“Friends, we need to talk. Look around – there are goats amongst us. They’ve traveled a long way from Upper Egypt and now they’re grazing at Zeke’s Gallery. Join the herd on October 20th, along with Monavici, Girl Friday, Edmund Fitzcaraldo, amongst others. Have a beer or seventeen – you just may get lucky and take one of them home.” – Marcus Hildebrandt
