The Fringe starts
tomorrow here in Montreal, and the beer tent is just around the corner from my place so I expect to be going by quite a bit in the next week or so. If you’re curious, they have a really nice website this year, design by Black Eye, development by the good people at Plank Design.

Paul Bausch, who makes onfocus, linked to this Spencer Tunik photograph today and mentioned that he didn’t, “think you’d get the same turnout in the US.” I don’t know about that, but there was an article in the Gazette about the shoot last Sunday in which his suspicions seem to be confirmed:

Via MetaFilter: The Empire That Was Russia: The Prokudin-Gorskii Photographic Record Recreated. It’s a website for a Library of Congress exhibition that features pre-colour photography colour pics that were made using an intricate RGB plate system and have just now been reproduced digitally to be displayed. The photographs are absolutely amazing. Be careful – once you get sucked in, if you have any sense of history at all you’ll be entranced for hours.
Just in
: the Canadian government has announced $500M of new arts funding over the next three years, as previewed in this National Post story from this morning. Gotta get me some of that.
