is also covering the new SirCam virus/worm, as one would expect. It’s a very interesting issue considering that Mac OS X is now out in the world, and, as many have noted, Apple will soon be the largest volume Unix vendor in the world. Their rollout of OS X is happening in a very different context than earlier releases of consumer- and business-friendly operating systems, and it could be a huge opportunity for Apple. If they were to develop an open, fast, and highly professional security infrastructure I think a lot of people might sit up and take notice.
I finally bought
a real keyboard today. I was up at B.Mac with my folks trying to figure out how my stepfather can connect his original iBook to a projector, and they had one in stock (of course, B.Mac is a great store) so I picked it up. It’s the nicest keyboard I’ve ever used – much better to the old “iMac style” keyboard I used until now.
I love the
widely-blogged story about a new and apparently unbreakable crypto system [NYTimes, requires free reg] that a Harvard professor has come up with. I wonder if this might be the, ahem, paradigm shift necessary to upset the crypto applecart and provoke a really deep discussion about the place of crypto in the world. Louis Freeh must be going nuts.
Whoa. The new
Titanium Powerbook looks hot. Like a Vaio, but thinner, with a bigger screen, DVD-ROM built-in, and a full complement of ports. I haven’t seen a picture yet, but there’s a story about it already at MacInTouch.
Update: Apple has updated its site with the new Powerbook. It’s hot.
