The US pulled a surprise move and handed over “sovereignty” early to the Allawi government. Sovereignty in quotes, because what was handed over was nothing of the kind. Puppets are not sovereign.

Today is election day here in Canada, and for the first time in years the result isn’t a foregone conclusion. Many pundits are suggesting that we will see a minority government when the votes are tallied. Whether the coalition will be led by the Liberals or the Conservatives is less certain. A lot depends on the strategic vote, which usually plays into Liberal hands, but this time plays against them, as Quebeckers are driven to support the Bloc Quebecois which may very well hold the key to the whole thing.
