however there is even more impetus for me to go to YULBlog First Wednesdays. I’ve never taken my “founder” status very seriously, but with 3 of the first 5 members living elsewhere (San Francisco, Toronto, and soon Vancouver) and the fourth otherwise engaged, it will be good form to show up more than once in a while! After all, it is probably the longest-running weblogger meeting in the world.
Patrick says
I’ve seen “number of years” since the first meeting mentioned before but do you have a full date or even just a month and year?
Michael says
Actually it’s all blogged. Check out the month of March, 2000: https://www.mikel.org/arch/2000/03/index.html or several individual posts: https://www.mikel.org/arch/2000/03/it_happened.html

Note that stuff refers to the first get together, which included David Pettite (now in Toronto), Heather Champ (now in SF), Aaron, and Ed Bilodeau. We had several other informal get togethers – one early one including Blork – before Ed Bilodeau made up the original YULBlog page and the first Wednesday idea was fully formed. But that all came within a year (as I recall) of the first night of beers.
Patrick says
So about to start year 6! Cool.
blork says
I think we should designate the March YULBlog first Monday as the “5th Anniversary Party.”
Nika says
so does that mean that the “founder” will buy everyone a round of celebratory drinks?
huh? huh?
Patrick says
blork: agreed
Ed says
Keep it up and you may even get me to attend! :P
Michael says
That’d be great, Ed!

Ed Bilodeau says
Maybe we should have a get together on March 21 at Else’s? Aaron will be back in Montreal in March, but not at the beginning of the month. The 21st might work. What do you think?
Michael says
I think we should talk about it tonight! I’m certainly not active enough in YULBlog to decide anything. But with your opinion now registered – and it’s a good idea for sure – I’ll bring it up tonight at Cabane.
