it seems that Apple is suing the publisher of a popular Mac site, Think Secret. They’re going much further than they have before, fueling speculation that they hope it will put a “chill” in those who would consider writing about upcoming Apple plans.

Apple likes its big semi-yearly surprise show-n-tell, it’s sexy and keeps up the mystique — but I wonder if that policy doesn’t ultimately hurt the company by not allowing IT buyers to plan ahead.
This rumored sub-$500 Mac would be an amazing desktop / thin client for corporate use — no viruses, great spam filtering, easy administration, and Microsoft Office — but if companies don’t know it’s coming, then how can they plan their purchasing when it comes time for desktop replacement?

I don’t know that it really matters in that respect, AJ. We just refreshed all of our machines in the last six months and they all came with Win2K, not XP. I know a lot of others in big companies are in a similar boat. Point being that many companies (maybe most) don’t buy the latest-and-greatest anyhow, so springing something on them is a non-issue.
Nevertheless, I think Apple’s clearly going too far, and I can’t see how Think Secret has any responsibility to Apple with respect to this kind or article.
