They suggest that “Search inside the book” results are presented under the “Books” tab on the standard results page, but I tried it and it didn’t work. That’s a pretty tough test so I tried again with a more precise search and it got the book right but not the page that my name appears on.

I may have forgotten to post
that economics professors Koleman Strumpf and Felix Oberholzer have published a preliminary version of what I think is an important paper: The effect of file sharing on record sales – an empirical analysis [360K PDF]. The authors have come under withering criticism since putting the draft online, but the paper is clearly much better than anything else that has been published on the subject. If you’re curious, the New Observer in Raleigh NC has published a profile of Strumpf. Doesn’t look like an anarchist to me!
Search don’t sort
is the principle that stands behind Google’s Gmail. Rael Dornfest is beginning an experiment to do the same on his desktop.
I hadn’t really thought of it, but it’s not that different than what I have done for years. I have never really presorted email in anything other than chronological folders – no folders for specific subjects or anything like that. Any other system has always seemed inadequate for me, as it relies on building a taxonomy that is complete and exclusive – something that doesn’t mix well with email.
NYU’s Jay Rosen
wrote a piece before Bush’s “press conference” last night trying to figure out just what he was doing, and then did a followup after the event. Very interesting stuff. From NYU J-School’s Pressthink: A Prime Time News Conference Before a Special Interest – Make Sense to You?
Moving on
I’m still happily employed, but I’ve been strongly considering a move back towards the interactive agency side of things. If the right opportunity were to arise, I would jump at it in an instant. I am very good with clients, but am also more than happy to develop the pitch with the creatives and techies as well. I am an excellent translator between the bean-counters, creatives, and geeks, and am familiar with all three kinds of language. Ideally, I will end up either responsible for online product development or running a web project management office. If possible, I’d prefer to stay in Montreal. If anyone has a lead or advice or wants to hire me, please get in touch!
