TypeKey, from Six Apart, makers of Movable Type and TypePad. I’ve been starting to think that Flickr might have something to offer in this area as well. My personal view is that they should work together and figure out how to federate this in some way. It would go a long way to calming fears that will arise from those who don’t want to rely on a single, central server from a single company.

You don’t like Anonymous users? This thing may have an adverse effect on blogs. Anonymous commenting is a good thing. All of a sudden blogs might lose readers. Also as you mentioned, SixAparts is a very small company for this scale of job.

Good point – I actually do think there is a very good case to be made for anonymous posting. I am curious to see how this could be accomodated, but it’s not an easy task. Perhaps an old-school cypherpunk/cypherpunk type schema will be considered acceptible. There are ways to do this kind of thing even under a centralized system.
I am more concerned about the potential for value judgements about the quality of a person’s contribution to affect that person’s ability to fully participate in comments (and other things that use the service). That’s part of why I think a less centralized system would be better.
