: Bush Decides to Oust Saddam Hussein. I don’t know how the US leadership thinks it can contravene international law, unilaterally, and simultaneously demand that others follow it to the letter. This fits in well with a thesis I’ve been working on (on and off) for some time. The US works very hard to develop new international treaties and regimes, but then steadfastly refuses to ratify or sign them, thus setting up a system whereby it has one set of rules (basically, ‘we do what we want’) and everyone else has another. American exceptionalism at its best. Trouble is, it plays right into “rogue” states’ hands. They are very happy to have well-documented evidence that the US is itself a lone wolf, willing and able to do what it wants in the world without concern for international rules and laws.

I like Radio Userland
as a product, and I very much respect what Dave Winer is doing by putting the focus where it belongs in the web world at the moment. That said, his critique of camworld today is completely beside the point. He’s right – permalinks, for instance, are de rigueur for a weblog today. By the same token, so is flexibility of archiving methods, something that is absent (unless you roll your own solution) in Radio. Dave’s critique comes off as a cheap shot, and will doubtless only serve to alienate a guy (Cam) who, in my experience, is nothing but generous and sincere in asking important questions and contributing an excellent weblog to the community.
A sad story
about the demise of arsDigita: Diary of a Start-Up, by Eve Anderssen. I was only vaguely aware of aD in the early days, but I wish now that I had kept closer track of them.
If you’re not sure
about the Winter Olympics, Reindeer Games by Richard Libero of NHL.com is a good primer.
Good news
and odd news from Google. First the good: the Google Search Appliance. Now you can install a Google machine on your private network. I bet it’s not intended to compete with things like Documentum, but I bet it will regardless of the fact that it’s a different thing.
Also new is that www.google.com now redirects me to www.google.ca. I trust that the results of a regular search won’t be affected in any way – at least I hope not. It is a good way to gain additional revenue streams for companies targeting different markets – now they can sell the same adwords in different countries to different companies.
