it is thousands of kilometers from here: Cougar kills skier on park trail. I lived in Banff about ten years ago, and know the area where the woman was attacked well.
Archives for January 2001
I just got back from
sharing New Year’s greetings with several friends who only made their way back to Montreal in the past day or so, but in doing so I determined that step one of my five-point master plan (of web stuff) for 2001 is a lock now. I got an email today that put step two a lot closer to fruition as well.
The Blogger folks
are looking for support to help the service stay snappy. And although I have many questions, and long ago promised myself to quit donating to for-profit companies, I’m going to send a cheque or money order.
I’ve been down this road before with companies and concluded that making a donation to a company that intends to make money isn’t the best idea – much better to pay a fair, agreed-upon price for a service than to respond to a call for action. At the same time, in my opinion the Blogger folks deserve a lot of slack on this issue. To me, what they are trying to do is in the absolute best spirit of what the web should be – and I’ll support that any day, no questions asked.
So go now, and give what you think is appropriate!
Cover your ears
! I bought a guitar the other day. A used green guitar from a pawn shop (just like Elvis). Now my fingers hurt, as do (I’m quite sure) my upstairs neighbours’ ears.
I’m sure it’ll make
waves for some people, but Nikolai’s 2001 weblog awards looks like fun. It may seem competitive, which (rightly, to a point) turns some people off. But I think he’s done a good job of thinking up a wide variety of categories, so lots and lots of sites could show up in the results – so I bet it’ll end up being a really great list of sites when it’s all over.
