Tomorrow is St. Jean Baptiste day, named after the patron saint of Quebec. This means different things to different people. For some, it’s the Fte Nationale, the National Holiday, with all the attendant celebration. For others, it’s just “that long weekend in June I always forget about”. For still others it’s the Stardust picnic, hosted for the past few years by Blue Rodeo. For me – there’s a patio furniture clearance sale at Wal-Mart, and several used/antique furniture stores to visit, plus I might call up my Official Plant Consultant to help me foliate my new apartment.

No comment today – just this: good for you.
Nothing particularly new
in June’s back page article (entitled www.buythis.com) in Le Monde Diplomatique, but it’s always interesting to see what’s being published about the internet on the Continent. Don’t worry, it’s in English.
My goodness, Bill
is saying some pretty tame, boring stuff when he talks about [Making] Way for New Net Era. “The internet will become the platform, he predicted.” Uh, that and $3.50 will buy you a half-caf latt.
I’ve seen references
to this story about British Telecom owning a patent on hyperlinks for a couple of days, but it was so ridiculous I never even followed the link. Anyhow, trust me, it is that ridiculous. I want Ted Nelson to sue BT now. Given the current penalties assessed hackers, he could sue them for 13.4 kajillion dollars, or pounds, or whatever.
